About Us
Three decades of growing food that heals.
David's Journey
David's journey into farming began not with a business plan, but with a personal health quest. Searching for natural ways to harness turmeric's powerful medicinal properties, he discovered that truly fresh, properly grown turmeric was nearly impossible to find locally — so he decided to grow it himself.
That spark of curiosity grew into more than 30 years of experience cultivating vegetables and healing plants. David's deep belief that food is medicine guides every decision on the farm, from which seeds go in the ground to how the soil is nurtured between seasons.
Today, Pixie Farm is one of the very few farms in the Southeast to grow both turmeric and galangal — two roots prized for centuries for their culinary depth and medicinal value. David's passion turned a personal remedy into a rare and treasured regional resource.
I didn't set out to start a farm. I set out to find food that actually made me feel better — and when I couldn't find it, I grew it.
— David, Founder of Pixie FarmSustainability at Heart
At Pixie Farm, sustainability is not a marketing word — it is woven into every practice we follow. We work with the land, not against it.
-
Biochar
We incorporate biochar into our soil to keep essential nutrients accessible to plants for longer, improving water retention and supporting the microbial life that makes healthy soil possible. It is an ancient technique with remarkable modern results.
-
Locally Sourced Mulch
Our mulches are sourced right here in the region, reducing our carbon footprint while continuously enriching the soil as they break down over each growing season. What comes from the land goes back to the land.
-
Goats & Sheep
Our small herd of goats and sheep do natural weed management the old-fashioned way. In the process, they convert unwanted plant material into rich, fertile manure that feeds our fields season after season — a living cycle of renewal.
-
Soil Amendments
Healthy soil is the foundation of everything. We carefully balance our soil amendments each season based on what the land tells us it needs — no synthetic shortcuts, no industrial inputs. Just patience and observation.
Community & Quality
Pixie Farm is committed to educating the public about sustainable farming practices and the remarkable medicinal and culinary uses of plants like turmeric and galangal. We love sharing what we know — at farmers markets, through conversations at the gate, and in every bag of produce we send out.
That commitment to quality has not gone unnoticed. Our produce is favored by high-end restaurants all the way from Savannah, Georgia to Charlotte, North Carolina, where chefs trust Pixie Farm to bring them ingredients grown with intention and care.
The Road Forward
The story of Pixie Farm is still being written. David plans to expand the farm's crop variety, bringing even more rare and healing plants to the Southeast. We are also building toward hosting intimate farm-to-table dining events right here on the property — where guests can experience the full journey from soil to plate.
Perhaps most exciting, we are laying the groundwork for a Community Supported Agriculture (CSA) program, giving local families a direct connection to fresh, sustainably grown produce throughout the season.
